Jack always understood high school crushes from movies, but he never experienced one himself. Until now. He sees her at a dance, is immediately drawn to her, but is too shy to say anything. He sees her at functions and hangs out with her friends, but never gets past awkward jokes.
Naturally, Jack never makes a move. The girl is impregnated by a man in his 20s before graduation.
lyrics
I close my eyes and look back at our picture
Taken last winter.
Our hands locked while on the ice
Which has melted in my mind.
Do you remember our dance last winter?
For a second, our eyes met.
But cold winter laid you on your back -
Gave you a new summer life.
(Chorus)
Summer virgins die in autumn
Put my heart in glass this winter
Spring time crushes blown up again
But I'll be coming home next winter.
I'll be coming home next winter...
I pray this winter you'll be on my doorstep
But I know
It's just another empty holiday
With brown misletoe.
That summer boy you knew is dead
Please bury him withing your head.
Will you be beneath my tree,
Or will you keep unwrapping me?
Chorus
I don't know if my next winter
Comes with a rearview mirror.
I don't know if I'll be home for the holidays.
Through all your presents next winter
I hope you have time to remember
To drop your flowers on this boy's winter grave.
I'll be coming home next winter
I'll be coming home next winter
I'll be coming home next winter
I'll be coming home next winter
Winter...
