Jack has done everything he was supposed to do. Got a sensible degree. Got a responsible job. Got married. He is a respectable citizen and a hard worker. Yet, he can't shake his feeling of discontent. He wonders if this is really what his life is supposed to amount to: settling for the status quo. He finds that his simple life is not necessarily easy.
lyrics
Always did all of my homework
Reached for that gold star
Always gave the teach an apple
I thought I'd get real far
Worked each day that I could spare
Always took overtime
Didn't have much fun, but I don't care
I earned every dime
After all these years
Just going with the flow
Pre-Chorus:
I dreamed of days
When I'd get paid
I'd get a car and buy some land.
I made good grades
Pained minimum wage
Just to build to something grand...
Down some beers when I get home
'Cause I need me time
Got a beach as my screen saver
It gives me peace of mind
Got a degree, a job, got married
Off to a good head start.
I'll punch that clock until I'm buried
Pray it doesn't fall apart
After all these years
Got nothing left to show
Pre-chorus:
I dreamed of days
When I'd get paid
I'd get a car and buy some land.
I made good grades
Pained minimum wage
Just to build to something grand
But is this it?
Chorus:
Is This It?
Pre-chorus
